Yiannis Franjeskos, painter, photographer and sculptor, was born and raised in Naxos, the island where he continues to spend his days creating. He studied at the Academy of Arts (1969) in Montreal, Canada and at the School of Modern Photography 1972
Since 2008 I have been working with sculpture, which is my love. In my sculpting I use a completely different technique than what we have known until now, that is, I don’t decide my subject, but the stone itself indicates and tells me what subject to make. This is being done for the first time and I have called this technique Naxos sculpture, it is innovative and unique. Also, the same work cannot be reproduced again because the same stone with the same designs and colors must be found which is impossible.
My sculptures are not painted, the colors and patterns are the natural ones of the stone.
